Stillpoint Lodge is situated within the tribal lands of the Seldovia Village Tribe, whose decendants trace their roots from ancient Kachemak Bay peoples and today's Dena'ina and Sugpiaq people. We acknowledge this land and the indigenous people who reside here still and have made innumerable contributions to our region.
Today more than 100,000 Alaska Natives live in Alaska and comprise roughly 10 percent of the state population, making them an important minority population. The Alaska Native Heritage Center Dancers began in 2001 as part of an after school program. Students connect with their cultures through traditional Alaska Native dance and travel to remote destinations such as Stillpoint Lodge to share their culture. Members of the Alaska Native Heritage Center Dancers include extremely dedicated and enthusiastic students representing many different Alaska Native cultures. The dancers, dressed in traditional regalia, perform dances from all over Alaska that tell the stories of traditional legends, stories, and lifestyles from the Inupiaq, Yup’ik, Alutiiq, Unagax and southeast cultures.
Experience the rich culture and colorful heritage of Alaska’s Native people through a vibrant mix of engaging storytelling, native song, dance and drumming, and Native Games. Join in an interactive dance demonstration; participate in learning a song, or attempt a traditional game.
No matter how you prefer to spend your Alaska vacation, we’re excited to help you create your one-of-a-kind journey. Thanks for choosing Stillpoint Lodge as your preferred Alaskan resort!
