Alaska Wildlife: What to Expect on Your Trip

February 27, 2019

All-inclusive vacations are a popular choice for many, and more people than you might realize are picking Alaska as their dream spot to visit. In fact, over 1.8 million visitors came from other states in 2016, according to the Alaska Almanac, and that was just between May and September.

Why is it the perfect spot for all-inclusive vacations? Well, first of all, consider that Alaska is home to the largest state park system in the United States. The units in this system make up over 3.2 million acres of land and water, giving vacationers a whole lot of area to explore.

All in all, there are over 75 parks to visit, and there are a large number of historical sites, national forests, and preserves to see, as well. Between the countless monuments and multiple national and state parks, you won’t be running out of things to do in this state any time soon.

If you have planned a trip to an Alaskan lodge or luxury Alaska resort, then you may be wondering what exactly you can expect from the experience. Well, considering that over half of this state’s acreage is made up of wilderness, you can definitely plan on seeing some of the area’s beautiful wildlife. Here are some of the more common creatures visitors tend to spot.

Birds

If you are an avid bird-watcher than Alaska will not disappoint. There are a large range of breeds to see, no matter what part of the state you visit, and between the bright blue skies, the glistening waters, and the lush, green trees, you are bound to see a lot of them.

Whales

There is not anything quite like seeing a whale pop out of the water and make a big splash as it comes back down. If you have yet to experience this, then be sure to make room for whale-sightings sometime during your trip.

Moose

Most people do not spot a lot of moose throughout their lifetime, and there is no doubt that these creatures are a sight to see. Their majestic size and impressive antlers make them an exciting part of nature. Spot them in wooded areas or even in the water, as they love to swim and spend a good part of their days soaking in surrounding bodies of water.

Bears

Bears are incredible animals, and Alaska is home to brown bears, black bears, and grizzly bears. While you obviously do not want to get too close to these fellows, they are exciting to observe and not many can say that have seen one in real life. If you are looking for something to add to your bucket list, spotting a bear in Alaska is a must.

And Many, Many More

The list of amazing creatures to see in Alaska is seemingly never-ending, and there is no doubt that the best way to soak it all in is to come to see it all for yourself. These listed, along with beaves, bison, seals, turtles, foxes, walruses, and many more, will ensure everyone on your trip has a critter to appreciate.

All-inclusive vacations are a great way to see the world, connect with family, and create experiences you will never forget. Why wait any longer? Your Alaska vacation is waiting for you.
