Halibut Cove: A Hidden Gem As Your Next Destination

Alaska is known for its beautiful glaciers and vast wilderness. In fact, Alaska's acreage is about 52% wilderness alone. It's cold and dark in the winter, and it rains 11 out of 12 months of the year with May being the exception. With all of this in mind, Alaska still had nearly 1.9 million out-of-state visitors between May and September in 2016. According to the Alaska Travel Industry Association, this is the highest visitor volume on record.

So, what makes this wild place so alluring? Well, for hidden gems like Halibut Cove, it's a prime vacation spot with the appeal of little civilization surrounded by untouched natural beauty.

Quiet Location

There are no roads leading into this cozy little town, nor are there any within it. In order to get to Halibut Cove Alaska, you can choose either air or water as your mode of transportation. Walking, ATVs or skiffs is the local's method for mobility in the town. Even though it is a bit of journey to this quaint neck of the woods, it is well worth it for a memorable Alaska fishing trip or a stay at a luxurious Halibut Cove lodge.

Halibut Cove is nestled within Alaska’s first state park, Kachemak State Bay Park. While it is small, they still have access to water taxi’s that allow visitors to hike, fish, and observe the wildlife to their heart's content. Alaska fishing trips are famous as well so the fishermen in the family would truly enjoy having the ocean right at their fingertips. In town, world-class musicians are known to host live events in the floating amphitheater and renowned chefs are there to cook up delicious culinary delights using the local produce and freshly caught fish.
